Can Hitch Reducer Sleeve Be Used with Weight Distribution Shank Without Loss of Capacity
Published 11/01/2017 >
Question:
Does Reese make a shank for weight distribution system for a 3inch super titan receiver? My new motorhome has this hitch, but my shank is only 2, I am not sure I want to add the weight of my trailer using a reducer.

We offer weight distribution shanks for 2-inch and 2-1/2-inch hitches, shown on the linked page, but not one for a 3-inch hitch. We can still help you.
Adding Curt reducer sleeve # C45408 allows dropping a 3-inch receiver down to either the 2-1/2-inch size to allow use of a Reese shank like # RP54977 or to a 2-inch size, which would allow you to continue using your existing 2-inch shank.
This reducer does NOT cause a loss of hitch capacity the way other types of adapters do. Hitch extenders and expanders cannot be used with weight distribution systems because they reduce weight capacity but reducers can be since they reinforce the hitch tube at the same time that they reduce its size.
