How Many Volts of Power Should Be Coming Out Of the Tekonsha P-3 Brake Controller # 90195

Question:

What would a typical output voltage be for a P3 to the trailer? I am reading approx.4volts and the trailer brakes do not appear to be activating. I have used this on my electric over hyd. boat trailer with great results but now using it on a trailer with electric only does not appear to be activating the brakes. I have changed controller to electric mode.

If the gain on your Tekonsha P-3 Trailer Brake Controller, part # 90195, is turned up, you should get up to 12 volts of power.

What you will want to do is disconnect or unplug your brake controller for a minute or two, then plug it back in, which will reset the controller. Then, you will want to adjust the settings again. You will want to follow the instructions to set the brake controller, making sure to warm the trailer brakes up using the manual switch. More than likely, you just need to have the gain turned up more with the different trailer you are towing.
