Question:

Weve used an old Rhode Gear rack many years ago. Now getting back into biking and have a 2007 Acura RDX. Will the newer Prorack work well with this car? The RDX has a lot of glass in the back and I worry about putting the support bar on the glass. Thoughts/suggestions/alternatives? Thanks

A option for carrying bikes with your Acura RDX would be to use a hitch mounted rack. Unfortunately, a trunk mounted rack will not be compatible. Part of the problem is the glass you mentioned. Basically, a trunk mount rack cannot be safely attached to the rear of the vehicle.

But there are other options. You could add a hitch and use a hitch mounted bike rack, or, use roof mounted racks. In either case these options offer more versatility than a trunk mount bike rack including towing, carrying gear, cargo bags, boxes, kayaks, and other accessories.

If interested in adding a trailer hitch, I recommend Curt # 13536. This is a class III hitch with a 2 inch receiver. A class III hitch will afford you many more options for accessories, including bike racks, than a lower class hitch. For a hitch mounted rack, I would recommend # TH934XTR. I have included a link to a video review of this rack for you to view.

For a roof rack, there are three possible roof configurations for your RDX. I have incldued a link to the roof rack main page for your RDX. Click on the one that represents what type of roof you have to see available options. For example if you clicked on factory rack with crossbars, the next page will show you Yakima and Thule products that you can add. Further down are direct fit products. Click on bike racks to see the options for your vehicle.

For a naked roof or a roof with side rails only, you would first need to add crossbars. Those options are also available on the respective pages (Naked Roof or Raised Rails pages).
