Recommended Bike Rack for a 2008 Honda Fit Sport

Updated 10/03/2017 | Published 10/02/2017

Question:

Looking for a trunkinch mounted bike rack for a 2008 Honda Fit Sport, I notice that you have the caveat that the Hollywood rack was not designed/tested for the Fit-Sport. Do you have a recommend bike rack for the Sport? Thanks

For the 2008 Honda Fit Sport, the rear bumper is so slim that the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top, part # HRF2 will not work unless the vehicle has a trailer hitch receiver installed. Which at that point, you may as well just use a hitch mounted rack as the capacities will be higher, and you can get better features out of the rack.

I recommend just going with the hitch because it's not hard to install and the flexibility in hitch racks and other applications is worth the increased cost. I recommend Draw-Tite's Class I Sport hitch, part # 24776 as the best fit for your vehicle. It has a no-drill, straightforward installation that will quickly add the hitch onto the vehicle.

I've included a link to our trailer hitch installation tips to help make your installation go as smooth as possible. Additionally, there's a few tips our customers submitted from their installs that should help out:

-The tool list in the instructions lists a 9/16ths wrench, and I found an 11/16ths worked better.

- You can support the rear of the hitch with a 1 gallon paint can when you install the U-Bolt to free both of your hands up.

Class I Hitches are limited to carrying a maximum of two bikes, and I've included a link to all compatible hitch bike racks that we carry.

An extremely popular rack is the Kuat Transfer, part # KU74FR. This rack has a unique U shaped bar, letting you step into the rack to load the rear bike. It's also extremely light, making installation and removal a breeze. Additionally, the rack is designed so that you can use the rear cradle to support the bike as you roll it up and lean it into the front cradle.

If you don't want to add the hitch and your bikes are equipped with a quick-release front wheel, you can use the SeaSucker 3 bike Bomber, part # 298-BB3008 , 2 bike Mini Bomber part # 298-BM2006 or 1 bike Talon, part # 298-BT1004 . These bike racks use an innovative vacuum cup system to mount your bike directly to any smooth surface on your vehicle, letting you avoid adding a roof rack or hitch to your vehicle.

I strongly recommend adding a window-mounted anchor point, part # 298-BA0010 and 10 foot cable lock, part # e98891 to add security to the bikes while they're loaded, as the SeaSuckers do not have any integrated security features. I've included a video of a pair of the Talon rack being used to lift the front end of a Volkswagen Bus to show how strong of a mount these create.

Additionally, I have included videos of all of these racks so you can compare them and make the best pick for your bikes and vehicle.
