Question:
I had a hidden hitch on my 2015 forester and it worked fine with the bike rack. I am in an area the the dealer only sells Curt hitches C 12100. Looking at the pin hole it looks like it is too close to the end of the receiver, so there would be little support. on the hidden hitch i measured the bike back and it slide in 4 inches then the anti rattle bolt secures the rack. Is the Curt hitch going to work?

The hitch I recommend for your 2017 Subaru Forester for use with your Swagman XC 2-Bike Platform Rack # S64650 is the 2-inch Draw-Tite Class III hitch # 75876. This hitch offers substantially higher weight capacity (525-lbs vs 350 for the Curt # C12100) and since it is a 2-inch hitch it will offer better compatibility with the range of available hitch accessories and towing items.
This 2-inch hitch is shown in the linked installation video which features a 2017 Forester, like yours.
I went to our warehouse and measured the hitch pin hole distances for you. From the reinforced end of the receiver tube to the forward edge of the hitch pin hole the distance is 2-3/4-inches on the Draw-Tite. This will provide plenty of rack-to-car clearance to ensure it will work great with the Swagman XC. This dimension on the Curt hitch is 2-inches. Clearly the extra material is beneficial but Curt, like Draw-Tite, knows its hitches will be used with accessories such as bike racks.
