Recommended Stop Light Switch and Battery Disconnect for 2008 Jeep Wrangler Sahara

Updated 09/08/2017 | Published 09/06/2017

Question:

I recently installed the Hopkins 56200 custom light kit on my 2008 Jeep wrangler Sahara. I also installed the Brake Light relay RM 88400 and the Brake Master 9160. My motor home has amber turn signals and red brake lights and a 6 blade plug which is reduced down to a 4 wire harness between the motor home and the jeep. When i apply the brakes in the motor home the brake lights on the jeep do not come on but the turn signals work and the tail lights work. Two questions. What do I need to get the brake lights working from the motor home to the jeep and the brake indicator lamp in the motor home does not work when the brakes are applied. I have to keep the ignition on when i tow and have been disconnecting the neg terminal. But have read that I should remove the IOD fuse. Can you help?

Expert Reply:

On your 2008 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, you need the RoadMaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751452. This will help with brake indicator lamp you are missing. The Brake Light Relay # RM-88400 is not a fit for your Jeep and may be what is causing the miscommunication between your motorhome and Jeep. I recommend removing that relay kit when you install the stop light switch kit.

To make your battery disconnect easy, I recommend using the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch for Towed Vehicle w/ Supplemental Braking System # RM-766.
