I spoke with my contact at Redline and he informed me that latch of this Locking Stainless Steel Flush Door Latch, part # L1883, will sit flush with the surface that it will mount to. He also said there is a distance of 3/4 of an inch behind the handle to the back wall of the latch.
The overall thickness of this is 1-1/4 inches.
