Trailer Connector on 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 not Working Properly
Published 08/11/2017 >
Question:
On my 08 chevy 1500 when I hook up to my trailer I get no running lights and only the left blinker works. I cross checked with another truck to verify the trailer lights actually worked and they did. Is there such a thing as the plug on the truck went bad or is there a module that regulates that? I did check for power and there is none going to the running lights circuit at the plug.

Yes there is such a thing as a connector going bad on either the tow vehicle, like your 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, or the trailer. This can be the result of corrosion build-up, which can be cleaned, or damaged wires. You can also check to see if any fuses might need to be replaced.
If there is corrosion build-up then you can try cleaning it first and if that doesn't work then you will need to get a new connector for your truck, If you just have a 4-Pole you can use the Hopkins # 41155, but if you have a 7-Way and 4-Pole you can use the Hopkins # 30955 instead.
I have attached an installation video for one of them, but they will both install the same way.
