Can Thule Bike Rack Be Used with Hitch Extender and Does It Cut Hitch Capacity
Published 06/21/2017 >
Question:
I just bought a Thule T2 Classic 9044 hitch bike rack. I have a 2008 Kia Sportage with a 2 inch hitch receiver. When I installed the rack and went to fold it up, the wheel tray sticks out too far and hits the bumper, preventing me from locking the rack into the upright folded position. If I get a hitch extender, how much will this reduce the weight that I am able to carry on the rack? Do you have another suggestion for how I can make this rack work for my car?

Expert Reply:
Hitch extenders cut the capacity of the hitch they are used on by 50 percent. We have smaller extensions like the 7 inch extension part # HE06 which would work well most likely, but it still cuts the capacity.
There really isn't any other option for getting you more clearance.
