Question:

Hi , I have a 2009 BMW X3. I have a beach cruiser fat tire. Im struggling to understand the differences between the 2 aside from weight allowance. What do you recommend for me.Helium vs Apex

The Thule Apex 4 Bike Rack # TH9025XT and the Thule Helium Aero 3-Bike Rack # TH9043PRO are similar in many respects. They differ in the number of bikes they carry and the materials with which they are made. The Apex is steel and weighs about 44 lbs where the Helium is Aluminum and weighs about 23 lbs. These are both nice bike racks but they will limit you to 35 lbs per bike which is where your fat tire beach cruiser have issue as those bikes are normally heavier than that.

If this is an issue, I recommend you go with a platform style rack that is fat bike compatible like the RockyMounts MonoRail Solo Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # RKY10007-05 that has a 60 lb capacity per bike. For a 4-bike option, you may be interested in the Curt 4 Bike Platform Rack for Fat Bikes - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount - Tilting # C18087-FB.
