Recommended Base Plates Compatible With Demco Commander Tow Bar On 2014 Lincoln MKX

Updated 06/08/2017 | Published 06/07/2017

Question:

We would like to tow our 2014 Lincoln MKX. We want to remove tabs so it doesnt show when not towing. Blue Ox makes a baseplate that will fit this vehicle, and it has removable tabs. We have a Demco Commander tow bar with a single pin on the end. Does this adapter BX88310 replace the one that is currently on the end of our Commander tow bar? A picture of the end of our tow bar is included. If you look at the removable tab on the Blue Ox base plate would our Demco single tab fit right into the front connector area of the blueox removable tab? Thank you

For your 2014 Lincoln MKX, the baseplates confirmed to fit your vehicle are the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # BX2625 using Loctite Threadlocker # LT37420 to install. These baseplates are compatible with your Demco Commander II Tow Bar # DM9511012 using the Blue Ox Base Plate Adapter Brackets for Demco Tow Bars # BX88310. I reached out to my contact at Blue Ox to confirm this compatibility.

If you don't have safety cables, I recommend the RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables - 6,000 lbs # RM-643 for this application.

For your tow bar wiring, I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This will use diodes to utilize your MKX wiring and will give you a clean 6 way connection on the front of your baseplate crossbar.

For your supplemental braking system, I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # SM99251. This system will install into your vehicle and will require no adjusting after the initial installation is complete. This them makes this system operate as a plug and play.

The last thing that you will need is a high-low adapter. I've attached an article to assist as well as a link to your options.
