Placing an aftermarket cooler such as the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler part # D13503 in front of your radiator or A/C condenser will minimize the effectiveness of both units however, the amount to which the aftermarket cooler will decrease the functionality of these units is very minimal. Air will still pass through the aftermarket cooler and reach the condenser and radiator thus allowing for an effective operating temperature.

In fact, the recommended location to install an aftermarket transmission cooler is in front of the condenser/radiator behind the grill of your vehicle. Although I recommend placing the cooler in front of the condenser and behind the grill of the vehicle, you could also mount the cooler in between the condensor and radiator or behind the radiator in front of the vehicle's clutch fan.

In many cases, installing the cooler between the A/C condensor and radiator is not an option due to the limited space between the two. Placing the cooler behind the radiator is only an option if your vehicle is equipped with a clutch fan and not an electric fan, as the electric fans will further inhibit fitment capabilities.

Another option for you to consider would involve the use of a frame mounted cooler such as the Dual-Pass Heat Sink Transmission Cooler part # D13265 or a remote mounted transmission cooler such as the Derale Atomic-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit part # D15950.

While idling or parked, the transmission cooler will still run the fluid through the lines though not working to cool them. In most cases, idling won't cause transmission fluids to exceed the optimal operation temperature of the vehicle's transmission.
