For your 1997 Ford F-250, I recommend the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Air Helper Springs with Internal Jounce Bumpers - Rear Axle # AL88298. These springs are compatible with an in bed hitch system. These Air Lift springs will help to level your load when under load. You can adjust them independently if set up in that way to level sided to side for off-center loads. This kit comes with the manual inflation valves, but you can add a compressor if you want the convenience of adjusting at any time.
The internal jounce springs let you carry a load temporarily without any air pressure in your springs, so there is a built in safety to this system.
If you choose to add a compressor, I recommend the Air Lift WirelessONE Compressor System for Air Helper Springs - Hand-Held Remote - Single Path # AL25980 which lets you adjust your springs from inside or outside your cab with the hand-held controller. It automatically restores air pressure when it is too low for the minimum setting. It has 3 memory pre-sets for frequently hauled loads.
