For your 2009 Nissan Murano, I recommend the etrailer Class III Receiver Hitch # e65AR. This Class III hitch is custom-fit for your vehicle and has a 400 pound tongue weight and 4,000 pound towing weight capacity. I also recommend checking the capacities of your Murano as listed in the owner's manual, as this will likely be the limiting factor. The 2 inch receiver opening will give you a large number of hitch-mounted accessories like bike racks to choose from.
I have attached the installation instructions for you to check out.
For a bike rack that can transport at least 3 bikes, I recommend looking at the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4-Bike Platform Rack # HR1400Z. This carrier can hold up to 4 bikes at 50 pounds each and the adjustable wheel mounts will accept a variety of wheel sizes and wheelbases. The rack can be tilted, even with the bikes loaded, for easy rear cargo access. A hitch lock and cable lock are included to secure the rack to your hitch and the bikes to the rack.
I have attached a video demonstration of this carrier so you can see exactly how it works.
Since you mentioned that you may also do some light towing, I recommend using the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118653 to install a 4-way connector to power the trailer's signal lights. The T-One connector will plug directly into existing wiring.
