Question:
This is our first 5th wheel travel trailer. I have ordered a 2017 Chevy 3500 long bed dually with the factory GM hitch mount under the spray on bed with connector points through the bed. Our 5th wheel is about 16,000 loaded weight but I feel we need at least the 20,000lb hitch. I would like to be able to remove the hitch with quick disconnects or if too heavy a low profile body hitch. I am dealing with Camping World but want to be sure we are getting the best hitch for the job and one that will provide safety, ease of connectivity and a good ride. I read this response I think by Mike wherein he talked about the rough ride and recommending one hitch over the other. I am impressed with the thoroughness of his analysis. I look forward to your response. Thanks in advance.

For your 2017 Chevy 3500, I recommend the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs # BWRVK3700. This hitch is about 30 lbs lighter than the Curt A20 # C16064. The B&W hitch is not as fancy looking as the Curt, but our customers have come to it time and time again because it is an extremely well made and functional hitch. It has dual jaws for a secure king pin connection for less jarring and chucking for a smoother ride. It has a cam action latch handle to reduce binding and spring issues. The head is a fully articulating head for easy connection and less rattle. The really nice feature of this hitch is the head is quickly and easily removed to make the base easier to move and lighter for installation or removal.
