Kayak Carrier for a Thule Roof Rack on a Leer Camper Shell on a 2017 Ford F-250

Question:

Looking for the best set up to load and haul 2 kayaks Old Town Trip 10 angler 47# each on top of my Leer 122 cap. high top The cap has pre-existing factory installed Thule rails and square bars. This set up is rather high off the ground....but am hoping it will work out for someone who is only 5-6inch tall. I also pull a rather large travel trailer behind my 2017 Ford F 250 Superduty Crew Cab truck. I have also considered the Yakima Jaylow kayak carrier I look forward to your reply. Thank you.

Expert Reply:

Provided that your Leer cap can hold the weight of the 2 kayaks the Thule Hull-A-Port Aero # TH849000-97 is a great option seeing as the cap already has the bars. The JayLow # Y04073, which is very similar, will also fit the Thule bars. The JayLow is a more stylish carrier and would ultimately be easier to mount to the crossbars so it is a solid contender.

Another helpful item is a tire step, # ALL647596, which you could use on the vehicle tire(s) when loading or unloading the kayaks. They don't take up a lot of space so storing it in the vehicle is easy. I have linked a video review of the step as well.
