Need Item # HA81781-HBC for 2002 Chevy Silverado. Somehow ended up with Item # HA81780-HBC. What is the difference between the two? Brake controller wont work. Can i just swap a wire or pin around?

You're correct the only difference is the pin out.
If you move the red wire from position D on # HA81780-HBC to position A it will be the same as # HA81781-HBC and work for you.
