Vehicle Protector for a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Towed Behind an RV with Blue Ox Base Plates and Tow Bar

Updated 04/11/2017 | Published 04/09/2017

Question:

I purchased a Blue Ox tow bar and base plate for my 2012 Jeep Wrangler. I also bought a RM 4750 tow defender. After towing my Jeep for several thousand miles, I have found the tow defender does not protect the front end and windshield very well. I have tried a large mudflap at the rear of the motor home still get dings in front and windshield. I am considering getting a RM4000 shield but I am not sure if this can be adapted to my Blue Ox system. Also I still need something to protect the windshield. After a trip in February on sanded roads in the mountains I also noticed dings on the back of my new motorhome. Help! I would like to get this under control. Thanks

The Roadmaster Guardian Rock Guard # RM-4000 does not work with the Blue Ox base plates and tow bar but you can use the Blue Ox KarGard # BX8870 as long as you are not using the Acclaim tow bar or a Blue Ox AutoStop braking system.

It sounds like debris is getting kicked up from the sides of the rear wheels as much as it is from behind them. The only way to really reduce that would be fender skirts to partially block the sides of the tires but those would likely have to be custom made.

There isn't a windshield protector that is rated for use while the vehicle is in motion.
