Is the Diameter of a Trailer Wheel Pilot Hole Important When Choosing a Replacement Wheel

Question:
The wheels on my trailer are 13 inch by 41/2 inch, 4 lug spaced 4 inches across. The pilot hole dia. is 21/2 inch. I want to use the conventional wheel without spokes, but the pilot hole on the 20202 is 2.84 inches. Would this be a problem?

A pilot hole that is larger would not be a problem as long as the wheel is stud piloted (the wheel is centered on the hub by the studs and lug nuts). You will be able to tell if the hub uses wheel bolts or lug nuts. If it uses wheel bolts, it is a hub-centric wheel and you will need one with the correct pilot hole diameter. If it uses lug nuts then it is stud piloted.
