Question:

I have a 2014 ram 1500, and i recently bought a Curt Venture brake controller along with a harness 51438. The brakes only work with the manual override switch on the controller. and when I use that switch the brakes stay activated until i mess with the output button.

If the brake controller is applying your trailer brakes when using the manual override switch but not when actually pressing down on the brake pedal in your 2014 Ram 1500, most likely there is an issue with the red wire from the Curt Venturer Trailer Brake Controller # C74VV itself.

Make sure it is connected to a circuit that only sees voltage when the brakes are applied using a circuit tester like # PTW2993. More than likely it is a simple connection issue and reconnecting the circuit will resolve the issue.

Another common cause for this is a blown stop light or CHMSL fuse. You can check your owner's manual to find the fuse locations and replace them if needed.
