175/80-13 Load Range D Bias or Radial Trailer Tire for Highway Use
Updated 03/02/2017 | Published 03/01/2017 >
Question:
I would like to upgrade my 175/80D13 Load Range C tires on our travel trailer to the same size tire mounted on new wheel with a stronger Load Range D capacity. I notice that you have that wheel/tire combo in both Bias and Radial designs. What would be your best recommendation of the Bias versus Radial design for a travel trailer that will be used extensively on the highway at speeds of 60-65 mph for 8-10 continuous hours per trip ? Our travel trailer is tandem axle so there would be four tires on the ground. Thank you.

I've linked our selection of 175/80-13 sized tire and wheel combos for you but it sounds like you've already looked through them.
Since your trailer will mainly be on the highway I definitely suggest going with radials like # AM31991. Radial tires run cooler than a bias tire, and a cooler tire will last longer. They also have better ground contact, traction, stability, and tread wear which will benefit you on highway use.
A bias tire is generally only a better option for off road use like on a farm. The side wall is stiffer so it can handle the harder bumps and bounces a trailer will make off road.
