Question:
I am looking for a 1 1/4inch Class 2 hitch for a 2016 Mazda CX-5 Mid-Year. The two options available are Curt C12080 and Draw Tite 36602. The Curt requires Stabilizing Strap for bike racks. Is the Draw Tite hitch stronger and more secure? Or is it simply just a warranty requirement for the Curt?

Expert Reply:
It's a warranty situation for the Curt hitch. It's not that the Draw Tite is necessarily stronger than the Curt it's just that they approach the idea of carrying a non-supported load more cautiously than Draw Tite.
The only thing is that for your 2016.5 Mazda CX-5 there is only the Curt hitch part # C12170 that is confirmed as a fit so you would have to use the # 18050 with a bike rack. Realistically Draw Tite will eventually have a hitch fit for your vehicle, but at this time we are still waiting (March 2017).
I attached a link that has all of the hitches that are Class II and a fit for the 2016.5 CX-5. When Draw Tite has a hitch fit it will be at the link.
