Question:

Hello Im looking for a roof rack system that will be comparable for my 2012 Hyundai Tucson. It is a limited edition so it has the glass roof and sunroof. Because of this it shows that your Thule products are not compatable with glass roofs but are for bare roof. I cant imagine that the roof frame structure where you clamp on is different between the two types of roofs. Also there is a video of you guys installing a Thule roof rack on a glass roof Tuscan like my own. Is it simply not recommended because the sun roof will not be able to be opened? Any experience or answers would be appreciated. Thank you.

We talked with our contact at Thule this is what they told us about your Tucson with the glass roof:

The trim pieces that surround the glass roof do not allow the pad to sit properly in the ditch. The trim pieces are also not a structural load bearing section of the roof and the pad would apply too much pressure on this area during installation and further so under load. The fits by the other manufacturers likely sit outside of the ditch area which allows them to fit the glass roof models.

A roof rack I recommend for your vehicle is the Rhino-Rack Square Bar Roof Rack. This roof rack includes square crossbars that measure 50 inches long and are 1-1/4 inch wide and 7/8-inch tall. The leg covers include locks to secure the rack to your roof. To order this roof rack you need parts # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA, and part # DK201.
