Question:
Hello, I have a 2010 Ford Expedition EL. I use my truck for both work and family trips. I am a contractor, but I dont plan on hauling major loads of materials or stacks of ladders I have a portable shop of a trailer I pull where the bulk of my tools and materials are hauled, but there will be the rare occasion when I have to run out for a few extra long 2xs, or an extension ladder. Mostly I will use it for family gear on our weekends, etc... This rack appears to be rated similarly to my factory rack weight restrictions, so I will be sure to stay as much as possible under the 196lb limit....usually : I notice that this rack is shown with a cross bar that spans from the top of the rack in the middle across to the other side....I like that...is it included? Would you say that this is one of the more rugged racks I should be considering? I want to be able to open my rear hatch with the rack in place, but also want as long of a rack as possible, so I may need to shift it forward slightly and cantilever it towards the front slightly....any cautionary words of advice on this with this rack? My factory rack has the two flat or elliptical cross bars....Im not crazy about placing all my faith in these. Can This rack simply be mounted to the factory mounted parallel racks and not cross bars? If not, what is a good bomber cross rack that will mate up with my slightly odd shaped factory rails? I will also want to look at a cargo net, and possibly waterproof or at least water resistant cargo bag or bags that clothing, bedding, etc... can go in. Can you recommend any options for these items that work well with this rack. Well, thats about it....kind of a lot I know. I look forward to your response. I will be ready to make a purchase once I get to review your answers....In addition to getting your response in writing so I can study it.

The Yakima LoadWarrior with extension # Y07070-74 does indeed come with the that bar that you see that goes from one side to the other. This basket has been around for a long time. It is made of steel so it is strong and will serve you well.
The basket can be positioned so as not to interfere with opening the rear hatch on your 2010 Ford Expedition provided you mount it to the crossbars within the guidelines in the instructions which I have linked for you. You will want the weight to be as evenly distributed as possible both in terms of the basket on the crossbars and the items within the crossbars.
This basket cannot be mounted to the side rails of the vehicle. It has to be mounted to crossbars. No matter what crossbars you put on the vehicle or if you stick with the stock ones the capacity of the roof is reported to be 165 pounds. There isn't a way to increase this so there is no need to go through the extra expense of a different set of crossbars.
The recommended cargo net for the basket is # Y07072. I have linked a video of it for you. For a cargo bag you could use # RL100S30. It will have to be tucked in some since it is a tad wider than the basket but it is probably the largest bag that will fit.
