Solution for Hard to Release B and W Companion Hitch for Ford Hitch Prep

Updated 10/15/2026 | Published 11/08/2016

Question:

I have a 2015, F350 long bed and cant get the hitch to come out or even turn the 4 locking pins to the bed. I had a spray in bed liner installed and since then cant get it to release for a clear bed. Your thoughts please? I have a B and W 20K hitch

Sounds like the spray in bed liner has added a bit of height to the truck bed floor and the hitch doesn't want to release now. You can adjust the height of the latch handle which will change the tension.

If you check out the picture I attached you can see the section of the install instructions that covers how to do this.

I wish it was that easy still fighting mine. The hitch rocks when unlatched a bit but latching it and getting the handles to work right is another story.

@Dan do you have a bed liner?

@JamesonC No bed liner just a B&W puck hitch I have been fighting for over a year with no help from B&W. It appears the frame with the pucks maybe slightly bent but B&W has all kind of excuses to justify it is not. I need to find another set up to put in the bed to verify that. B&W says Ford makes lousy pucks for the bed and they need adjusting. Ford says no adjustment. So I need to find another frame this winter.

@Dan That's a frustrating situation all around. Sorry to hear about that. I am sure you are wanting to find someone with a Companion base you could test fit into your pucks but if you get to the point where you want to order a new base we have them with the part # BWRVB3300.
