Recommended Tire Chains on Ford F150 with 275-/55-20 Tires

Published 11/13/2010

Question:

I have a 4 weel drive F150 and are from the south. Do I put chains on the front and back? The tires are P275-55/55 R20. We are going north for Xmas. What do you reccomend we purchase?

Snow chains are typically installed on the drive wheels, which in the case of your F-150 would be the rear wheels. On a four wheel drive vehicle, they can be installed on all four wheels if desired.

Since it sounds as if you are wanting the chains specifically for this trip, and since they might not see frequent use any time soon thereafter, I would suggest a basic set of chains like the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains, part # PW2028C.

I would recommend a set of adjusters, part # PW99 as well.

I'd recommend doing a dry run or two, getting some practice installing the chains. You don't want to figure it out when you're on the side of the road becoming a snow drift.
