Replacement Special Trailer Tires for Triton Aluminum Boat Trailer

Question:

My boat trailer is currently running a 215/70R14 on front axle and a 20/70R14 on rear axle is this normal the trailer is for a 1999 Triton 21 foot bass boat the previous owner put these tires in but I need to replace them now and unsure if I should just make them all match or stick with what he had before

It is possible but unlikely that a trailer manufacturer would use different size special trailer tires on the front and rear axles of one of their trailers. More likely is that a previous owner substituted alternate tires. We recommend that all tires on a trailer be of the same type, size and load range rating.

If you do not have the original documentation for the trailer then I suggest you contact Triton (800-232-3780) with the trailer VIN to confirm the recommended tire type (bias ply or radial), the size and the weight Load Range rating. Their website does not provide this. You can also check the stickers on the axles to confirm their weight rating and then use this information to select the appropriate load range tires for that axle weight capacity.

Special trailer tires should always be fully inflated to their maximum psi pressure noted on the tire sidewall. It is never appropriate to under- or over-inflate a trailer tire. The linked articles on trailer tires may be helpful to you.
