Can Curt Hitch C11375 Be Used as Recovery Point Since Tow Hook Gets Removed

Published 10/04/2016

Question:

I reviewed the install directions for this, and it looks like the rear tow hook has to be removed to install the hitch. Im concerned with winter coming, if something happens and I need to be recovered from a ditch, can a receiver recovery d-ring on the hitch support the weight of the car enough curb weight 3,090 lb, or is there another solution?

The safety chain loops of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11375 could certainly be used as a recovery point in the event you get the vehicle stuck in snow.

Essentially the hitch would be a sturdier attachment point anyway since it attaches to both sides of the vehicle frame instead of just the one side like the tow hook did.

Curt has also informed us that you can reinstall the tow hook over the hitch if you use long enough bolts.
