Question:

I need to haul two adult Bicycles from Anchorage Alaska to Idaho, 2,411 miles in total. Parts of this trip will be slick road conditions while other parts are just plain rough roads. What style and brand of bike rack do you recommend? Thank you for your time!

The trunk-mounted bike carrier I recommend for your 2012 Focus Sedan is the Thule OutWay, part # TH45JV.

This carrier has some great features and is extremely durable. It features premium features. It uses only 2 rubber coated straps to anchor the bike rack to your trunk. Most trunk mount carriers use 6 straps to attach to the vehicle. This carrier also has an integrated cable lock that secures the bikes to the carrier and the locking covers secure the carrier to the vehicle. This carrier folds down for easy storage when not in use.
