Recommended Tailgate Clearance Option when Parking a Fifth Wheel Trailer at an Angle
Updated 09/26/2016 | Published 09/25/2016 >
Question:
I have a Lippert 1621 pinbox and with my present trailer I can only open the tail gate on my truck when I am perfectly lined up square with the trailer. My last 5th wheel I could be at quit an angle to the trailer and that also had a Lippert 1621 pinbox. My question is can I get a different pinbox that will replace the 1621 but have an additional 1-2 inches longer than the 1621 and still be within safe load bearing specs? Thanks

In order to gain additional tailgate clearance while parked at an angle with your 5th wheel trailer attached you would need to install a sliding hitch. Your current Lippert 1621 pin box falls into the "long" pin box category, so there are no other pin box replacements that will offer more clearance.
Please check out the attached link to our fit guide for sliding hitch options that will work with your truck year make and model.
