Question:
Im curious if the trunk of a 2004 Accord Coupe can be opened and closed when this is installed or if the rack needs to be removed to access the trunk. Thank you.

There are many bike rack options that allow you to access your trunk without removing the rack from your vehicle, but these rack options are hitch-mounted. Unfortunately, trunk mounted racks are designed to be removed prior to opening your trunk. If you open the rear hatch of your vehicle with a trunk mounted rack attached, you risk damaging your vehicle.
If you're looking for a trunk mounted bike rack and need to remove/install the rack frequently for trunk access, I would recommend a retractable strap trunk mounted rack. It will be much easier to install a rack with retractable straps compared to racks using non-retractable straps, but there's not much difference when it comes to removing either rack. You'll typically find retractable straps on higher end trunk mounted racks by the way. Because of the excellent reviews and similarity to the # TH910XT, I recommend the Thule OutWay 2-Bike Rack (- Trunk Mount - Adjustable Arms) # TH45JV.
For easier trunk access, you could opt for a hitch mounted rack. You would need a receiver hitch and a tiling hitch mount bike rack. I recommend the following cost effective combination.
2004 Honda Accord Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver Class I - 1-1/4" # 24787
Swagman Trailhead 2 Bike Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Tilting # S63360
If you're carrying bikes with alternative frames, I also recommend the Swagman Deluxe Bike Frame Adapter Bar for Women's, Children's, and Alternative Frame Bikes # 64005. I like this adapter because it's easy to use and cost effective.
I have attached demonstration videos as well.
