Your 2003 Ford Taurus is classified as a light duty towing vehicle. The amount of weight you can safely tow depends on the type of engine you have in your vehicle. You will want to check your owner's manual to confirm what your specific model Taurus is capable of. It's also important to know how much the total trailer will weigh.
The Curt trailer hitch # C12232 you were looking at will have a weight rating of 300lbs tongue weight and 3,500lbs towing, but it's important to know that you will be limited to your lowest rated item in your setup which may be your vehicle itself. To maximize your vehicle's abilities you may instead be interested in the Class II hitch # C12232 which is rated for 300lbs tongue weight and 3,500lbs towing.
Depending on which model of Tauras you have the recommended wiring harness will be # C55375 for Sedans and the # C59496 for Wagons.
I have linked a few Help Articles you will want to check out to determine your tongue weight and what ball mount and ball you will need. If you could tell me more about the model and the weight of your items I'd be happy to help further recommend a setup to work for you.
