Trailer Hitch Hardware is too Large to Fit Weld Nuts on a 2013 GMC Terrain
Updated 09/09/2016 | Published 09/08/2016 >
Question:
2013 gmc terrain I tried to install this hitch on a the terrain listed above using the m12-1.75-45 hex bolt listed above and it did not fit. I then went out and bought 4 m12-1.25 and m12-1.50 thinking maybe it was the thread spacing. Neither worked so the bolts provided have too big of a diameter. Should I try an m10?

The problem you are describing is a text book example of road grime and corrosion pact threads in the weld nuts on your 2013 GMC Terrain. Going to a smaller diameter bolt won't work and would result in the loss of the hitch. The weld nuts will need to be cleaned out and then the regular hardware that came with the hitch will fit.
I have included links to both a help article and video explaining and showing how to clean out weld nuts.
