Question:

Hi there, Im buying a new Hobie PA 12 Kayak and plan to transfer it on the roof of my 2012 VW CC. Because of the weight of the kayak, a yakima boat loader may do a lot of help. I will also need a roof rack thats compatible with the yakima boat loader. Whats your recommendation? Is there anything I should pay attention to for transporting? The PA 12 hull is weight 105 lbs Thank you.

I would love to sell you a roof rack and kayak carrier and load-assist for your Hobie PA 12 but unfortunately we do not have a load assist that can handle the weight of the boat. I do have a solution that will work for you though.

I recommend a trailer hitch like part # C11091 and a small trailer like part # Y08106 to carry your kayak. For a ball mount I recommend part # 3594. for a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball I recommend part # 19256 and for a 2-inch ball I recommend part # 19258.

Most of the rooftop kayak carriers are not designed to hold 105 lbs. The best option for your 105 lb kayak is the Inno Locker Watersport Carrier w/ Crossbar Pads - Locking - Clamp On - 1 Boat or 2 Boards # INA446. Another option is the Lockrack carrier # LR54FR. These both have a capacity that will match your roof rack and hold your kayak well. Unfortunately, none of the loaders will handle the weight of your kayak.
