When wiring a trailer connector, it is best to wire by function, as wire colors can vary. You will want to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993, to test the wire function on your 2008 Ford F450. Once you have tested the wires on your vehicle for function you will want to wire them to the Pollak Metal 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Socket, # PK12703.
If you are looking at the inside of the trailer connector where the wires will get connected to the terminals and the notch on the connector is at the bottom, we will start at the 1:00 position and go clockwise. The terminal at the 1:00 position is for the tail/running light circuit. The terminal at the 3:00 position is the left turn/brake light. The terminal at the 5:00 position is for the ground wire. The terminal at the 7:00 position is for the brake controller output. The terminal at the 9:00 position is for the right directional/brake light. The terminal at the 11:00 position is for the 12-volt power supply. The terminal in the center is usually used for the trailer reverse lights. This will give you the correct wiring for the 7-way vehicle connector.
I am sending a link to trailer wiring diagrams that will show the different types of trailer connectors and how they are to be wired. I also am sending a video link which will show a 7-way vehicle connector being wired.
