Adding 7-Way Trailer Connector to 2012 Nissan Pathfinder that has Different Connectors than 118266

Updated 06/27/2016 | Published 06/24/2016

Question:

I am trying to install kit 118266, but there a few snags Ive come accross. First the supplied jumper with relays doesnt have anywhere to plug into the vehicles harness under the passenger side kick panel. The connector that I am instructed to use is already in use. Second, the supplied 7 pin harness has a smaller 6 pin connector that doesnt just plug into the 4 way like the response says. I just noticed the back of the 118266 packaging says all Pathfinder models except those with the factory flat 4. Which is what I have. Is there another kit available for my specific application?

It sounds like your 2012 Nissan Pathfinder already has at least part of the tow package wiring installed. That would be why that connector behind the passenger's side kick panel is in use. Since all of the wiring harnesses available for the Pathfinder are for models that did not come with any factory trailer wiring harness you will need to use # ETBC7 to add a 7-Way. This will also retain the use of the 4-Way. I have included some links that show and explain the ETBC7 installation for you.

The reason that you would need the ETBC7 and not one that just plugs in is because the Pathfinder can have a different set of connectors. The majority of them have the ones that match up with # 118266 and similar harnesses. But every once in a while there is a different one. There doesn't seem to be any pattern on the ones that have the alternate and the ones that don't.
