Question:
I have a Ford F 150 with a tow rating of 10500 lbs. it has a pop up camper that weighs 800 pounds. The camper hangs over the back of the bed about 18 inches. I want to pull my lance trailer which has a dry weight of about 3500 pounds. Can I use an extension bar set up with this combination?

Expert Reply:
Hitch extenders like the part # HE06 cut the tongue capacity of the hitch they are installed on by 50 percent, but it sounds like your trailer weighs less than 50 percent of your towing capacity so you will be fine.
If you needed an 18 inch extension you would want the part # C45796 but you should note that this has a capacity of exactly 3,500 lbs total trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight.
