Question:
Is there a recommended bike rack for a trailer hitch mount that allows you to still open the top glass of a Volvo XC90 ?

Expert Reply:
We do have hitch-mount bike racks that fit the 2-inch hitches for your 2014 Volvo XC90 and many of these bike racks allow for full access to the car's rear hatch and cargo area. If you happen to need a hitch I recommend the 2-inch Curt # 13559 Class III hitch. This will allow you to use most bike racks including the following racks.
The most popular type of hitch rack for keeping cargo area access is the swing-away type, such as the Yakima FullSwing 4 Bike Rack # Y02465. The FullSwing swings away from the rear hatch (toward the passenger side) to give you full cargo area access - even when the rack is fully loaded with bikes. Please see the linked video showing this rack in use.
The Hitching Post 4 Bike Rack # TH934XTR does not swing away, but it does tilt rearward to give you the ability to open the hatch. The rack may still be in the way, depending on the size and type of bikes on it.
