Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2016 Kia Soul Manual Transmission Behind Class A Motorhome

Updated 06/01/2016 | Published 05/29/2016

Question:

What equipment would you recommend for 4 down towing by a 2016 25ft Vagas class A that has the Ford V10 engine and E350 frame. Will a mechanical brake work? I am looking to tow a 2016 KEA Soul straight shift. Thanks.

Flat towing a car like your 2016 Kia Soul behind a motorhome requires a few components, including a tow bar, safety cables, a wiring/lighting kit, and a set of base plates and braking system for the toad. Each of these is detailed in the linked article which may be a good starting point for you. You'll also want to check the Kia owner's manual for any steps that might be required to ready the car for flat towing.

Starting with base plates, I recommend the Demco kit # DM9518312. With this you can use their Commander II motorhome-mounted tow bar # DM9511012 which comes with safety cables. For a wired lighting installation use Hopkins kit # HM55999 or for the easiest lighting option use a magnetic kit that installs and removes easily, such as # TL21RK.

For a braking system you can go wireless and portable with the Blue Ox Patriot 3 # BLU37TR.

You may also find you need a high/low hitch adapter to keep the tow bar level. The linked page displays all such adapters.
