Since your 2005 GMC Sierra has a factory 7-way you would not need to run any wires to the rear of the vehicle as the brake controller install wiring is already present under the dash.
All you would need is the install harness part # 3015-P and a compatible brake controller and you would be set. For a time delayed brake controller the most popular option is the Activator part # 5504. You would just need to plug the controller into the harness and then plug the harness in under your dash and you would be wired up. All that would be left would be the physical mounting of the controller to your vehicle.
I attached an install video for you to check out as well that shows a controller being installed in a 2005 Sierra just like yours.
