How to Install 4-Pole Trailer Connector On RV w/ Existing 7-Way

Updated 07/01/2016 | Published 05/07/2016

Question:

Hi, I have an RV that has a 7-blade connector . And I have a car-dolly that has a 7-pin blade connector, so thats perfect. But, I also want to put magnetic lights on the back of the car being towed, and those typically have a 4-pin flat connector. Whats the easiest way to convert my 7-blade connector on the RV to a dual-output 7-blade + 4-pin flat? Thanks!

The Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow you mentioned, part # HM48470 would be exactly what you need to provide a functional 4-pole and 7-way at the rear of your RV.

If your existing 7-way doesn't have terminals at the rear where the wires connect to it, you'll need to cut the existing 7-way off and connect the # HM48470 as shown in the trailer wiring FAQ I've linked for you. I've also provided a photo showing how the wires would connect. You might need a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and a helper to activate each lighting function as you test for it.
