Replacing P165/80-13 Tires on Trailer With Larger Size

Neither tire size you mention is a trailer tire size. Could you have meant 175/80-13 which is a trailer tire size?

Your current 165/80-13 tires are about 23.39 inches in diameter and 6.50 inches in width. Switching to the 175/70-13 would give you a shorter, wider tire at 22.64 inches in diameter and 6.88 inches in width. When changing tire sizes, you'll want to be mindful of the clearance between the tire and the underside of the fender or the underside of the trailer. You'll want to see at the very least 3 inches of clearance when the trailer is loaded, otherwise the tire can bottom out on the fender or underside of the trailer. If you have sufficient clearance, I'd recommend using a 175/80-13 trailer tire, which has a thicker sidewall to provide more vertical support.

A 175/80-13 tire would be 24 inches in diameter and 6.88 inches wide. You'd want to pick the tires whose combined load range exceeds the weight of the trailer and its cargo. The trailer tire you mentioned, part # AM31957 is a 175/80-13 Radial load range C tire with a 1360 lb capacity per tire when properly infated to 50 psi. The tire is mounted on a 13 x 4-1/2 inch white powder coated modular rim with a 5 lug on 4-1/2 inch bolt circle.
