Question:
Hi there. You have an amazing site. Thank you. I wanted to ask you about a bike rack for my 2016 Toyota Highlander. I have a factory installed 2 inch hitch receiver. One thing Ive noticed and am worried about is the pin hole depth on the receiver. There are two holes. The first is 1 1/4 to the center of the hole from the face of the receiver the second is 4 1/4 same measurement. Is there a bike rack that holds 5 bikes that would work with this receiver and these pin hole locations? Im worried that the Yakima Fulltilt 5 requires a greater pin hole depth, and maybe Thule does too? Its hard to tell from the documentation. Also, does it matter if the pin sits in the hole? if it goes past it i.e. deeper in and is secure, even if it comes loose, it would catch in the hole before fulling coming off, I would think. In any event, Id be super grateful if you could direct me to any 5 bike racks that would work with my receiver preferably hanging, but if its a platform style, thats okay, if need be. Thank you.

I spoke with my contact at Yakima and he informed me that the Yakima Fulltilt 5 part # Y02463 would not fit your shallow hitch pinned trailer hitch. Instead he recommended the Yakima RidgeBack part # Y02458 which uses a pin style for attachment and not a wedge.
Subaru also makes their hitches with really shallow pin holes and Yakima actually is the only brand recommended for them since they make their racks with shanks that are long enough to be compatible. I attached a review video for this rack for you to check out as well.
If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Kuat Bike Frame Adapter Bar # UB01 to provide a horizontal top tube on your bikes to provide an attachment point. I attached a review video for this product also. This will allow the bikes to be carried more level and will provide more ground clearance.
