Question:

I have a 2016 Malibu 2.5 engine with active shutter and e assist. Is there base plate available and if so, does the Blue Ox tow bar work on it. I see them on the tow bar list.

2016 is what's known as a split model year for the Chevy Malibu, which means there's actually two different models carrying the Malibu nameplate. The 2016 Chevy Malibu Limited is the same vehicle as the 2015, it's essentially a 'leftover' from the previous model year. The 2016 Chevy Malibu has a completely new body style, and is a brand-new vehicle.

If you have the 2016 Malibu Limited, the Roadmaster # RM-523183-5 base plate is compatible with the active air shutter system. To use a Blue Ox tow bar with this base plate, you'd want to use the # RM-032 adapter.

If you have the New Body Style 2016 Malibu, the owner's manual specifically states that models with the active air shutter system shouldn't be flat towed. If that's the case, you'd want to use a tow dolly like part # RM-2050-1. If you go with a tow dolly, you'll need a brake controller like # 90885 installed on the tow vehicle, if you don't have one already.
