Fitment of Stromberg-Carlson Lend-a-Hand Folding Grab Handle on Grooved Trailer Siding
Updated 03/07/2016 | Published 03/05/2016 >
Question:
I see you can buy the large grab handle and install it. My trailer only has a very small handle on the left side of the door. If I buythe larger one to install on my aluminum trailer, I have two questions. Will there most likely be wood to install to on the left side of the door? How do I deal with the aluminum siding since it is not a flat surface?

Expert Reply:
The Stromberg-Carlson Lend-a-Hand Folding Grab Handle # AM-200, is a universal fit item and is generally up to the installer to figure out how to best attach the handle.
Typically, on newer trailers there is a wood support behind the framing of the trailer on the left side. It sounds like you may have a vintage trailer with the grooved frame. If this is the case then you will want to check for the wood, because it may not span the entire door frame.
To accommodate the grooves you may need to add washers or try to mount it within the grooves to protect the aluminum siding. The measurement between brackets is 19-1/4 inches.
