Video That Shows Trailer Drum Brake Shoes Getting Replaced

Question:
Do you need to cut the drums when replacing brake shoes?

Expert Reply:
You would not need cut anything to replace the shoes on the drum brakes of your trailer. If you check out the video I attached you can see our installer replacing shoes on a brake assembly and get walked through the process.
If you are asking about whether or not the drums need to be turned before installing new assemblies...that will depend on the condition of the hub. If the surface looks smooth and not grooved out at all then no. If so, then you would need to have them turned.
