Question:
I recently ordered part # 8-213-5UC1 Assembly - 5,200-lb and 6,000-lb Axles - 6 on 5-1/2. I am wanting to do a 8 lug on the same spindle is this the hub set I need? I noticed the outside bearings are different?

Expert Reply:
Although both hubs you mention use a different outer bearing, the inside diameter of those different bearings is the same, so both hubs CAN be used on the same spindle. The outer diameter and thickness of both bearings is different, so the bearings cannot be swapped back and forth between the two different hubs.
A 5200 lb axle is a de-rated 6000 lb axle. Therefore, swapping to the higher rated # 8-231-9UC1-EZ hub won't necessarily increase the capacity of your trailer. You'll be limited to the capacity of the lowest rated component, which could be the tires, wheels or suspension.
