Question:

Will the battery run down while towing. Friends have to pull fuses on CR-V, do I have to on the Jeep?

Expert Reply:

It does not appear that you have to full fuses on your 2016 Jeep Cherokee to flat tow it behind a motor home. I recommend looking in the recreational towing section of the Jeep owner's manual to confirm. This information is for the Cherokee, not the Grand Cherokee.

If the Cherokee is a Latitude or Limited model I recommend Roadmaster base plates # RM-521447-4. If it is a Trailhawk model I recommend # RM-521446-4. I have linked videos showing example installations for each set.

For a compatible tow bar I recommend the Falcon 2 # RM-520. This tow bar is rated for 6,000 pounds so it can handle the Cherokee easily. I have linked a video featuring this tow bar for you. I also recommend safety cables # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.

You may also need a high-low adapter to keep the tow bar level. I have included a link to a help article that explains how to measure to determine which, if any, adapter is needed.

For lighting you could use a simple magnetic kit such as # RM-2120. Or, for a more permanent installation, I recommend the diode kit # RM-154. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the preferred systems for our installers and what I recommend is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

The # RM-88400 relay is required to prevent the towed vehicle's turn signal from overriding the signal from the RV if your towed vehicle is wired with a standard 4-diode kit
