Question:
Re: DL11011 hand winch with hex handle: If there is no free spooling, how would I be able to quickly unspool the cable to hook it to the load. How much force is required to unwind the cable? Thanks

Expert Reply:
Since the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch # DL11011 that you referenced is a worm gear winch, there really isn't a way to quickly unspool the cable. To extend the line you would turn the handle one direction, and then to retract the line you would turn the handle the opposite direction.
Because of the way the worm gear winch works, the cable cannot be pulled out to unwind the cable. The handle must be turned to release the cable.
I have attached a review video of this winch for you.
For a hand winch with a free spin option, I recommend the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch with TUFFPLATE Finish, Single Speed # DL14527. I have attached a review video of this winch for you.
