How to Correct Rattle from Newly Installed Draw-Tite Hitch on 2016 Volvo XC60

Question:

2016 Volvo XC60 I had the recommend Etrailor Draw-Tite hitch installed yesterday by a local garage that I trust. We are very upset to hear a rattling sound now on our beautiful brand new car. Does this mean the hitch was improperly installed? Thanks

Don't worry. Since you know and trust your local mechanic who did the hitch install, chances are that the rattling noise you're now hearing after hitch installation is simply the fairly common issue of the muffler coming into contact with the hitch tube. This is not cause for concern and it is easily remedied. The linked article addresses this matter and offers several ways to fix it.

Auto makers do not install their muffler hangers with the same precision that is applied to other components on a car. Their positions can vary slightly at the time of installation and they too may become bent from an impact with road debris or another cause. These hangers are easily bent to provide additional clearance between the muffler and hitch. Your mechanic should be able to do this for you on his vehicle lift in just a matter of moments.
